2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert B. |
4 | | Green, who passed away on January 22, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green was born to Elzy "Rico" and Vera |
6 | | Green on October 11, 1936; he attended the Metropolitan |
7 | | Community Church and graduated from Tilden Technical High |
8 | | School in 1955; he joined the United States Air Force in April |
9 | | 1955 and achieved the rank of airman first class and received |
10 | | the Good Conduct Medal; following his active duty, he served as |
11 | | a member of the Air Force Reserve until April 1963 when he was |
12 | | honorably discharged; he married Hattie Griffin in June 1966; |
13 | | and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green studied at the Chicago Conservatory |
15 | | of Music, where he honed his skills with the flute; he also |
16 | | studied at Woodrow Wilson Junior College; he was an activist |
17 | | for artists' rights, and, in 1965, he became a charter member |
18 | | of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians; |
19 | | he also worked at the Chicago Department of Buildings; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green founded the Chatham Village Symphony |
21 | | Orchestra in 1974, the only black orchestra of its kind in |
22 | | Chicago; he also played in the local United States Post Office |

1 | | Marching Band; he was a member of the Gary Civic Symphony |
2 | | Orchestra for nearly 40 years and organized a woodwind quintet |
3 | | which performed throughout the Chicago area; he was part of a |
4 | | group of musicians that performed at the White House; he looked |
5 | | forward to playing his flute during the holiday season and |
6 | | performing Handel's Messiah at Hartzell United Methodist |
7 | | Church; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green also pursued a career in the printing |
9 | | industry; from 1966 to 1968, he worked as a journeyman |
10 | | multilith operator at J.J. Collins and was a member of the |
11 | | Lithographer and Photoengraver Union; in 1969, he joined the |
12 | | American Banknote Company, where he spent over 20 years as a |
13 | | duplicator until his retirement in 1991; he worked as a |
14 | | pressman for the Chicago Park District from 1992 to 1995; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green enjoyed cooking, darts, and golf; he |
16 | | played golf anytime he could and served as a member of the Red |
17 | | Pepper Lounge Dart Team; he worked out at the South Side YMCA |
18 | | and enjoyed spending time with friends; he enjoyed preparing |
19 | | meals for his family and launched a small catering business; |
20 | | and

21 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green was preceded in death by his parents |
22 | | and his sister, Marilyn; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Green is survived by his wife, Hattie; his |
2 | | sister, Ruth Ann Alexander; his sons, Lawrence Green (Beverly) |
3 | | from his first wife, Joyce Price, Julian (Antris) Green, and |
4 | | Justin (Naseem) Green; his grandchildren, Ashley, Ahjah, |
5 | | Gianna, Jailyn, and Julian "Alex" Green; his nephew, Gerald |
6 | | Greene; his nieces, Donna Ellen, Nanette Alexander, and Camille |
7 | | Greene Sturgess; his great-nephews, Robert and Dominique Ellen |
8 | | and Chris Greene; his great-nieces, Cherita, Ailina, and |
9 | | Genelle Greene; his nieces and nephews-in-law, including |
10 | | Joseph, Venita, and Robert A. Griffin Jr.; and a host of family |
11 | | and friends; therefore, be it

12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
13 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
14 | | we mourn the passing of Robert B. Green and extend our sincere |
15 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
16 | | him; and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Robert Green as an expression of our |
19 | | deepest sympathy.
