HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, This year will mark the 31st anniversary of the
3establishment and recognition of National Black Nurses' Day by
4the 101st United States Congress; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Blacks have long been active in the nursing field;
6currently, they comprise five percent of the total nursing
7population and practice in a variety of areas, including
8clinical, education, administrative, research, government, and
9private enterprise; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Black nurses have made significant contributions
11to the nursing profession; as attention to the health care
12problems of minorities and the poor increases, black nurses can
13be credited for establishing an environment of quality,
14service, and skill that patients have come to expect from
15health care practitioners; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Since February honors the contributions made to
17this country by black Americans, it is fitting that black
18nurses be recognized and honored for their outstanding
19contributions to our communities and our country; therefore, be
20it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we declare February 2019 as Black Nurses Month in Illinois; and
3be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we urge all citizens of Illinois to
5acknowledge the tireless efforts and selfless service
6contributed by African American nurses every day.
