HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Carl E. King
4Sr. on being elected to the National Judiciary Board of the
5Church of God in Christ; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Judiciary Board is the Supreme Court of the
7Church of God in Christ, Inc. (COGIC); as the final authority
8on questions of ecclesiastical constitutional doctrine, it
9maintains the balance between the Legislative (General
10Assembly) and Executive Branch (General Board); the Judiciary
11Board is also the final appellate forum of the COGIC for
12disputes, except in cases that have been appealed to the
13Presiding Prelate for executive clemency; the Judiciary Board
14is comprised of nine members from the church categories of
15Episcopal, Ministerial, and General Assembly; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. King Sr. is the founding pastor of Christ
17Community Church in South Holland; since 1987, he has led
18Christ Community with the mission of "connecting the SOULS to
19Christ with an emphasis on discipleship and empowerment through
20worship and service"; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. King has been an active and committed leader
22within the Church of God in Christ; he has served as an

1administrative assistant and District Superintendent for the
2William Roberts Memorial District of First Jurisdiction of
3Illinois; at the national level, he has served as Dean of the
4Institute for the General Council of Pastors and Elders and
5Chair of the Codification Committee for the General Assembly;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, A gifted teacher and educator, Dr. King is a
8former adjunct faculty member of Indiana Wesleyan University in
9Merrillville, Indiana; currently, he serves as a board member
10for the Evangelical Training Association and as a member of
11Unity Christian Academy's Board of Visitors; he was a former
12member of Wheaton College's Board of Visitors; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. King is actively engaged in the community and
14serves as a Chaplain for the South Holland Fire and Police
15Departments; he has also served as the President of the South
16Holland Ministerial Alliance and as President of the Thornton
17High School District 205 School Board; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. King attended Purdue University and received a
19bachelor of arts from Governor's State University; he graduated
20from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he received a
21certificate in biblical studies; he received his Doctorate of
22Ministry from the McCormick Theological Seminary; he is married
23to Dr. Jeanne Porter King and is the father of Carl II, Anna,

1and Marjalene Kelly, the father-in-law of Jacqueline King,
2Stephen King, and Louis Coleman, and the grandfather of Stephen
3M. Kelly and Brendan Carl King; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Dr. Carl E. King Sr. on being elected to the
7National Judiciary Board of the Church of God in Christ; and be
8it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Dr. King as an expression of our esteem and
11respect.
