HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on
4the occasion of his retirement as CEO of Rush University
5Medical Center; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman served as CEO from February 2002 to
7May 2019; during this time, he also served as president of Rush
8University until February 2, 2019; he was the first CEO of the
9Rush University System for Health, serving in this role from
10March 2017 to May 2019; he holds the academic rank of professor
11of internal medicine and is the university's James A. Campbell,
12M.D., Distinguished Service Professor; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Under Dr. Goodman's leadership, Rush University
14Medical Center became nationally recognized for excellence in
15patient care, breakthrough research, community engagement, and
16technological innovation while also returning to and
17maintaining a position of solid financial strength; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Before his appointments as CEO, Dr. Goodman served
19as senior vice president of medical affairs and dean of Rush
20Medical College; from 1995 to 1998, he was the medical director
21of Cook County Hospital (John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook
22County); prior to that, he served at Rush University Medical

1Center as an infectious disease specialist, as associate dean
2of Rush Medical College, and as assistant dean of clinical
3curriculum; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a 1976 graduate of the University
5of Michigan Medical School; he completed a residency in
6internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease at
7Rush University Medical Center; during his fellowship, he
8served as chief medical resident before joining the faculty;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman serves on the board of The CORE
11Foundation, a model public-private venture between Cook County
12and Rush University Medical Center that established The Ruth M.
13Rothstein CORE Center, which cares for approximately 7,000
14patients with HIV/AIDS; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a member of the Commercial Club of
16Chicago and a board member of its Civic Consulting Alliance,
17which provides pro bono consulting services to the City of
18Chicago and Cook County in areas of greatest public need; he is
19also is a member of the board of the Joffrey Ballet; therefore,
20be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
22HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on his retirement as CEO
2of Rush University Medical Center; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Dr. Goodman as an expression of our esteem and
5respect.
