HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Antoine
4Marvin Lewis; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was born in Chicago to Rodney Alexia
6Sr. and Antoinette Lewis on May 9, 1979; he was raised in the
7Village of Matteson, where he attended elementary and high
8school; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis served in the U.S. Army for 14
10years, attaining the rank of captain; he spent time in Germany,
11Kosovo, Ghana, France, the Dominican Republic, China, Ireland,
12Thailand, the Philippines, Korea, and Canada; while serving in
13Afghanistan in 2012, he met the love of his life, Yalena
14Lopez-Lewis, and they married in March 2018; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was well read and knew the
16contributions of his ancestors as well as the diversity of
17their stories; he was devoted to making his own contributions
18to Africa and the U.S. by showing the black diaspora how
19beautiful and full of opportunity the continent of Africa is;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was committed to life-long

1learning; he was blessed with vision, leadership, clarity, and
2an understanding of how important it is to have free thought;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis is survived by his wife, Yalena
5Lopez-Lewis; his sons, Antoine Marvin Lewis Jr. and Messiah
6Phelps; his parents; his siblings, Ronetta Hoskins, Rodney
7Lewis Jr., Antoinette Lewis Jr., Monica Wilson, Markita Lewis,
8Michael Lewis, and Angelo Lewis; and numerous aunts, uncles,
9nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we mourn the passing of Antoine Marvin Lewis and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Antoine Lewis as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
