HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Bound to Stay Bound Books
4on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound is a third generation family
6owned business in Jacksonville; currently led by Robert L.
7"Bob" Sibert, its primary mission is to provide the best
8juvenile books, media products, and related services to the
9libraries of North America, as closely matched to their needs
10as possible and as economically as possible; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound's story began in 1920 when
12Lawrence D. Sibert and William Suhy founded New Method Book
13Bindery on the second floor of 220 South Main in Jacksonville,
14the former location of Degan's Dance Hall; it expanded and
15moved to 201 South Kosciusko in 1923; New Method acquired Ward
16Brothers Bindery in 1937; the business evolved into
17Hertzberg-New Method in 1953; it moved to its current location
18at 1880 West Morton Avenue in 1959; the company became Bound to
19Stay Bound Books in 1970, based on a book by Melvin Summerfield
20that it had published in 1956; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound has given back to the
22community in a number of ways; it began a librarian scholarship

1in 1984, providing financial assistance for the education of
2men and women who intend to pursue an MLS or advanced degree
3and who plan to work in the area of library service to
4children; it began offering Illinois College scholarships for
5employees in 1998; it has sponsored and provided travel grants
6for a number of conferences and programs led by the American
7Association of School Librarians (AASL); and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound and its owners have been the
9recipients of numerous awards and honors over its long history,
10including the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce's Industry
11of the Year Award in 1990, the Illinois State Board of
12Education's Business-Education Partnership Program Honorable
13Mention in 1998, the American Association of School Librarians'
14Crystal Apple Award in 2004 and 2015, the Jacksonville Area
15Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award in 2007, the
16Educational Book & Media Association's 3rd Jean Srnecz Award in
172017, the Association of Illinois School Library Educators'
18Pillar Award in 2018, and the Illinois State Historical
19Society's Centennial Business Award in 2019; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we congratulate Bound to Stay Bound Books on its one hundred
23years of service to the libraries across North America; and be
24it further
