HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives
3congratulates Rockford Police Department Deputy Chief John
4Pozzi on his retirement and commends his dedicated and
5exemplary service to Illinoisans in Winnebago County; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Pozzi was born in Rockford on April 22, 1966;
7he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement
8Administration from Western Illinois University; he
9subsequently graduated from the Northwestern University School
10of Police Staff and Command; and
 
11    WHEREAS, A 31 year veteran of the Rockford Police
12Department, John Pozzi launched his career as a patrol officer
13on June 20, 1988; in 1933, he was promoted and assigned to the
14Investigative Services Bureau where served as a gang detective,
15a youth detective, and a violent crimes detective; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In 2004, John Pozzi was promoted to sergeant and
17assigned to the Field Services Bureau; during this period, he
18served as a patrol sergeant as well as a special operations
19sergeant; he supervised several operations, including night
20shift patrol, the Bicycle Unit, the Rockford Housing Authority
21Unit, and the M3 Streets Team; and

1    WHEREAS, By 2012, John Pozzi was promoted to lieutenant and
2assigned to the Field Services Bureau; he voluntarily returned
3to the rank of sergeant in August 2013 and was assigned to the
4Field Services Patrol Division and then the Pilot Police
5District Neighborhood Response Unit; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 2015, John Pozzi was re-assigned as commander
7of the Field Services Bureau Day Shift; by 2016, he was
8promoted again to lieutenant and assigned to District 3
9Afternoon and Night Shift; in 2017, John was promoted to
10assistant deputy chief and was then assigned to District 3; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Pozzi was promoted to deputy chief in 2018;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, John Pozzi served as a
14field training officer, firearms instructor, SWAT Team member
15and commander, Dignitary Protection Team member and
16supervisor, Canine Unit commander, Traffic Unit commander,
17Pilot Police District team leader, Illinois Department of
18Corrections policing liaison, and Rockford Housing Authority
19policing liaison; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Pozzi also served as an executive board
21member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association; and

1    WHEREAS, The community is grateful for John Pozzi's
2continued passion for his profession and moving leadership;
3therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Rockford Police Department Deputy Chief John
7Pozzi on his retirement and commend his dedicated and exemplary
8service to Winnebago County; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10presented to John Pozzi and the Rockford Police Department.
