2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Pastor Richard D. | ||||||
4 | McCreary II, Ph.D. on the 40th anniversary of being installed | ||||||
5 | as the pastor of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church in | ||||||
6 | Phoenix, Illinois; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary was born in Evergreen, Alabama to | ||||||
8 | Leodia P. and Richard D. McCreary Sr. on May 14, 1967; he was | ||||||
9 | ordained on March 1, 1970 at the Rockhill Baptist Church in | ||||||
10 | Carbondale, where he served as interim pastor until 1971; in | ||||||
11 | 1980, he became senior pastor of New Covenant Missionary | ||||||
12 | Baptist Church after serving for seven years as associate | ||||||
13 | pastor; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary was formerly a teacher in the | ||||||
15 | public school systems of Georgia and Alabama; for 24 years, he | ||||||
16 | was employed as a professor of composition at Governors State | ||||||
17 | University in University Park, where he was voted Professor of | ||||||
18 | the Year in 1984; he retired in 1996; he was also employed as | ||||||
19 | an adjunct professor of preaching at Northern Baptist | ||||||
20 | Theological Seminary; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary has been the recipient of numerous | ||||||
22 | awards for outstanding community service and leadership; he was |

1 | the winner of the State of Iowa Award for Composition and the | ||||||
2 | Clapp Memorial Award for Composition; most recently, he was | ||||||
3 | bestowed with The Carter G. Woodson Award and the Worker Award; | ||||||
4 | and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary has a Bachelor of Science from | ||||||
6 | Florida A&M University, a Master of Arts from Southern Illinois | ||||||
7 | University, a Master of Divinity from Northern Baptist | ||||||
8 | Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the | ||||||
9 | University of Iowa; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary is a member of the Greater New Era | ||||||
11 | District Association of Chicago and Vicinity and the Phi Mu | ||||||
12 | Alpha, Kappa Psi, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternities; he was a | ||||||
13 | staff writer for The Worker; he is the founder of the New | ||||||
14 | Covenant Christian Academy and currently serves as the | ||||||
15 | executive director; he is also the founder of the New Covenant | ||||||
16 | Theological Institute; and

17 | WHEREAS, Pastor McCreary is married to his college | ||||||
18 | sweetheart, Barbara J. Pearson-McCreary M.D.; the McCreary's | ||||||
19 | are the parents of Angela D. McCreary-Raybon, Nicole R. | ||||||
20 | McCreary-Casmey, and Richard D. McCreary III and the proud | ||||||
21 | grandparents of seven beautiful grandchildren and one | ||||||
22 | great-grandchild; therefore, be it

2 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we congratulate Pastor Richard D. McCreary II, Ph.D. on the | ||||||
4 | 40th anniversary of being installed as the pastor of New | ||||||
5 | Covenant Missionary Baptist Church in Phoenix, Illinois, and we | ||||||
6 | wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Pastor McCreary as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
9 | esteem.
