HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague,
4State Senator Pat McGuire, on his eight years as a member of
5the Illinois General Assembly and to thank him for his
6dedicated service to our State and his community; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire attended Catholic schools in his
8hometown of Joliet; he is the husband of Lora and the father of
9Molly; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire taught job health and safety to
11local union members; he also taught English to high school and
12community college students; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire served his community in elective
14office as a school board member and a county treasurer before
15becoming a state senator; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has represented Illinois Senate
17District 43 since 2012, serving the people of DuPage and Will
18Counties for eight years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has experience in both private and
20public schooling; and

1    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was a strong advocate for women
2and children, acting to toughen penalties on domestic abusers
3and fund Court Appointed Special Advocate organizations in
4order to ensure that abused and neglected children are getting
5the court support that they need and deserve; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire served as the chair of the Senate
7Higher Education Committee, where he spoke against cuts to the
8university system during impasse; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire worked to preserve and redevelop
10Joliet's government facilities, including the Stateville
11Correctional Center and Collins Street Task Force to preserve
12the Collins Street prison facility; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire co-sponsored a measure to raise
14the minimum wage in Illinois to $15 per hour; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire spoke against harmful cuts to
16programs like child care assistance and fought to preserve
17payroll for state workers during the two-year budget crisis
18that occurred early in his career in the Senate; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire worked to form and lead the
20bipartisan, bicameral Higher Education Working Group; he

1created the AIM HIGH state scholarship; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire created the Mental Health Early
3Action on Campus Act; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire dedicated himself to improving
5the State's Department of Children and Family Services; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire will be remembered as a supporter
7of workers' rights and an advocate for collective bargaining;
8he supported worker safety, pushing for worker access to and
9knowledge of the regulations and protections granted by OSHA
10and other state workplace safety organizations; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was a frequent passenger on
12Amtrak's Lincoln Service; he was also an advocate for the
13improvement and further development of mass transit in
14Illinois; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire responded to the COVID-19
16pandemic with the goal of providing employees with the means to
17report improper conditions and providing employers with clear
18guidance on how to reorganize their workplaces to maximize
19worker safety; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was an Edgar Fellows Program

1student of the Class of 2017; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has been honored by a number of
3organizations, including the Romeoville Fraternal Order of
4Police, the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural
5Education, the Transportation for Illinois Coalition, the
6Illinois Optometric Association, Leading Age Illinois, Joliet
7Central, the senior living communities Heritage Woods of
8Bolingbrook and Woodridge Horizon, the Southwest Coalition on
9Substance Abuse Issues, and Volunteers of America of Illinois,
10among others; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate and honor State Senator Pat McGuire for his
14dedicated service as a member of the Illinois Senate, and we
15wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Senator McGuire as an expression of our esteem and
18respect.
