SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given
4their lives in service to their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid was raised in
6Lake Wildwood and later moved to Malden; he graduated from
7Princeton High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid enlisted in the United
9States Army in 1995; before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, he
10transferred to a different military unit to have a better
11opportunity of serving in combat; and
 
12    WHEREAS, On April 7, 2003, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was
13the platoon SGT when they had been assigned a mission to tear
14down a wall that aligned with Highway 8 near the Baghdad
15airport; after a section had come down, he walked forward to
16see what was there; at that time, enemy combatants fired upon
17him, and he was hit by small arms fire and an RPG; he died
18instantly; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was an avid outdoorsman
20and loved to hunt and drive his pickup, which he had adapted to
21use for four wheeling in the rough terrain and mountains of

1Southern California; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
4CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Main Street bridge
5over I-80 in Princeton as the "Staff Sergeant Lincoln
6Hollinsaid Memorial Bridge"; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
8is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
9State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
10giving notice of the name "Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid
11Memorial Bridge"; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid and the
14Secretary of Transportation.
