SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, March has been designated as Women's History Month
3to honor the contributions of women to our State and to our
4nation; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Women living in nursing homes are among our oldest
6Illinoisans of every race, ethnicity, and socio-economic
7status and have contributed mightily to our communities through
8their passion, ingenuity, and tireless determination; and
 
9    WHEREAS, They have earned the right to be honored, cared
10for, and protected as women of wisdom; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Female nursing home residents have raised their
12families, taught our children, and led their communities; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In their lifetimes, these women of wisdom have
14broken through the glass ceiling, served in the military to
15preserve freedom, and fought for the rights of women and
16children to live free from violence; and
 
17    WHEREAS, These women of wisdom have marched on the Chicago
18lakefront and the streets of Springfield as they worked
19tirelessly to ratify the ERA in Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, Many struggled to raise their children, earning
2only 59 cents for every dollar earned by their male
3counterparts; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Many of these women of wisdom are now over 100
5years old and must now look to the younger generations to care
6for them; and
 
7    WHEREAS, They are deserving of the highest caliber of care
8as they live out their final years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, It is important they are not forgotten and are
10included in the celebration of Women's History Month;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that all women residing in
14skilled nursing facilities in Illinois should be honored for
15their lifelong service to their families and communities.
