SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lisa Iskalis McCarthy of Northfield, who
4passed away on July 21, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was born in Waukegan to Thomas and
6Doris Iskalis; she graduated at the top of her class in both
7middle school and high school and participated in high school
8basketball, tennis, volleyball, and cheerleading; always one
9to hold herself to high standards, she graduated magna cum
10laude from the University of Illinois in 1988, where she
11majored in political science and French, a language in which
12she was fluent, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor
13society and the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority; she earned a Juris
14Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1992; after
15her second year of law school, she worked as a clerk at Jenner &
16 Block in Chicago, where she met Kevin McCarthy; she changed
17her plans to practice law in France and married Kevin, and they
18built a life in Chicago; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy worked at Sonnenschein, Nath &
20Rosenthal, the American Dental Association, and McCabe & Hogan;
21she retired from her legal career to devote time to her family
22and community; and

1    WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy volunteered at Sts. Peter and Paul
2Greek Orthodox Church and Lurie Children's Hospital; generous
3and kindhearted, she prepared homemade dinners for other
4families and ministered to those in need; she was confident and
5assertive and never backed down from standing up for what was
6right; she was an avid tennis and paddle player and enjoyed the
7camaraderie of that community; her family was at the center of
8her life, and she encouraged her children to set and achieve
9high academic goals; she was loving daughter, wife, mother,
10sister, and aunt who made her home a warm and welcoming center
11of family activity; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was preceded in death by her
13brother, Thomas Iskalis; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy is survived by her husband, Kevin;
15her children, Madison, Caroline, Quinn, and Michael McCarthy;
16her parents; her brother, John (Dana) Iskalis; her sister,
17Jennifer (Keith) Marhefka; her sister-in-law, Annalisa; her
18mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Joyce McCarthy; and
19many nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own children;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Lisa Iskalis McCarthy and extend our sincere condolences to her

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Lisa McCarthy as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
