SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Christal Elaine Dagit of Pekin, who
4passed away on September 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was born in Peoria to Merle Robert
6and Charlotte Elizabeth Kay (Allwardt) Miller on April 10,
71943; she attended Illinois Central College, Midstate Business
8College, Bradley University, and the National Genealogical
9Society Continuing Education School; she married Russel Roy
10Dagit in Peoria on September 4, 1966; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit worked as a licensed real estate
12sales agent for many years, retiring in 2005; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was a historical researcher and
14consultant and was honored for her work with numerous
15recognitions from Tazewell County and the State of Illinois;
16she was the founding member and first president of the Tazewell
17County Historic Places Society in 1997 and was the first
18director of the Tazewell County Museum and Educational Center,
19which officially opened in Pekin in 2003; she was president of
20the French Heritage Corridor, president of the Historic Fagotte
21Cemetery Association, a regional director with the Illinois War
22of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, Tazewell County Commissioner

1for the Abraham Lincoln Commission, and Tazewell County
2Commissioner of the Illinois River Heritage Commission from
32001 to 2004; she authored three books, two of which are in the
4Library of Congress and have been donated to the Tazewell
5County Genealogical & Historical Society; she also enjoyed
6researching and writing the Dagit Family History; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was a member and past president of
8the Pekin Woman's Club and held memberships in the William
9Schaefer American Legion Post 44 Ladies Auxiliary, the Peoria
10Woman's Club, the Midwest Soarring Foundation, and the Red Hat
11Society; she also served on the Save James Field Committee; she
12was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin and the
13Bethlehem Society; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit enjoyed art, especially oil
15painting, and won numerous ribbons for her artwork; in her
16leisure, she also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, and reading;
17she loved traveling the United States, especially seeing the
18western mountains and historic sites; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit was preceded in death by her
20husband, Russel; her parents; her sisters, Marilyn Siepert and
21Sally Spring; her brother, Daniel John Miller; and one niece;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Christal Dagit is survived by five nieces and
2nephews; her stepsons, Roy (Debbie) and Everett (Sheila) Dagit;
3her stepdaughter, Marnie Linda (Tommy) Lively; 11
4step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Christal Elaine Dagit and extend our sincere condolences to her
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Christal Dagit as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
