SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John A. Janicik, who passed away August
48, 2019 at the age of 62; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Janicik was born on May 2, 1957 in Belleville
6to Albert and Eileen Janicik; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Janicik attended Knox College, where he
8wrestled and earned his bachelor's degree; he then went to work
9in manufacturing; he became a travel assistant to former
10Illinois Governor James R. Thompson and then a legislative
11liaison for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community
12Affairs and a legal clerk with the Illinois Commerce
13Commission; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Janicik was encouraged by Gov. Thompson and
15others to study law; he attended Loyola University Chicago and
16graduated with a law degree in 1986; he started his law career
17with the Chicago firm of Lincoln, Isham and Beale; in 1988, he
18joined the law firm of Mayer Brown after receiving a call from
19Ty Fahner, a former colleague of the Thompson administration;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Janicik worked in the early years of casino

1gaming boats and represented operators and advised clients on
2regulatory, financing, and banking issues; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Janicik was a partner and attorney at Mayer
4Brown for 30 years; he led the government and global trade
5practice for Mayer Brown for 12 years and set the
6industry-leading practice in regulatory, government relations,
7and public law matters; recently, he worked with Chicago Mayor
8Lori Lightfoot and was highly respected in his field; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Janicik also provided pro bono counsel to
10many groups, including the Illinois Medical District (IMD)
11Guest House and the Catholic Diocese of Joliet; he served as
12both pro bono attorney and chairman of the board of IMD Guest
13House; he was equally active at the Catholic Diocese of Joliet,
14serving on or chairing multiple committees; additionally, he
15was active with the Better Business Bureau and the Notre Dame
16Parish; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Janicik was known for his quick wit,
18generosity, wise advice, and devotion to his religion; he will
19be remembered for his dedication to integrity and good
20government practices; he could be found on the golf course,
21watching Cardinals baseball, working out, or spending time with
22his wife and children; and

1    WHEREAS, John Janicik is survived by his wife of 36 years,
2Candie Janicik; his siblings, Thomas Janicik, Kathleen (Steve)
3Ryan, and James (Mary Jo) Janicik; his children, Mark (Sarah)
4Janicik, Sarah (Dave) Grady, and Rachel (Connor) Powers; and
5his granddaughter, Ella Janicik; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
8John A. Janicik and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of John Janicik as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
