SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donna Marie "Mama" Malnati of Chicago,
4who passed away on January 3, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was born to Florence and Harold
6Carter on September 11, 1926; she grew up in Muscatine, Iowa;
7she worked at an arms plant during World War II; she then moved
8to Chicago and studied nursing at Northwestern University; she
9met her husband Rudy Malnati at Pizzeria Uno, and they later
10celebrated their union at Riccardo's Restaurant; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Donna Malnati worked as a registered nurse at
12Wesley Memorial and Passavant Memorial Hospitals; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was especially known for her pizza
14dough-making prowess at Pizano's Pizza and Pasta; she initially
15learned the craft from her late husband, who developed his
16pizza prowess working at Pizzeria Uno; although she remained
17partial to Chicago deep dish pizza, she was instrumental in
18helping her son, Rudy Jr., develop Pizano's thin crust pizza
19dough; she spent many nights into her 80s fashioning dough
20balls from an old and secret family recipe; after a long night
21of dough-making, she enjoyed a Campari cocktail or a Black &
22White Scotch whisky; and

1    WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was preceded in death by her
2parents; her husband; her son, Robert (Susan) Malnati; and her
3stepson, Lou Malnati; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donna Malnati is survived by her son, Rudy
5(Annette) Malnati Jr., and her grandchildren, Holly, Rudy,
6James, and Catherine; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Donna Marie "Mama" Malnati and extend our sincere condolences
10to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Donna Malnati as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
