SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Adele Zaveduk of Northbrook, who passed
4away on January 23, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was born in Paris, France in August
6of 1937; during World Ward II, her father was arrested and sent
7to Auschwitz; her mother found a non-Jewish family in a town
8outside of Paris to care for her and her sister Josette before
9she was taken to Auschwitz as well; her parents survived
10Auschwitz, and the family was reunited in Paris after the war;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk then moved to Argentina with her
13mother after her father's death in 1951; she met and married
14her husband, Benjamin Zaveduk, and they moved to the Chicago
15area in 1963; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was involved in the establishment of
17the Illinois Holocaust Museum and served as a board member and
18member of the Speakers' Bureau for over 25 years; her life
19story was published in several books, and she spoke to
20thousands of school children over the years about what she
21endured; although she did not define herself by her wartime
22experiences, she felt sharing her story could help in the fight

1against hate and intolerance; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk was a strong life force packaged in
3a tiny body; she played tennis and loved theater, opera, the
4symphony, and watching foreign-language mysteries on TV; she
5always read the last page of a book first and never let anyone
6feel left out of a conversation; she made a mean brisket, and
7her flan and chocolate mousse were the highlights of many
8meals; she also knitted scraps of yarn into beautiful blankets
9for hospitalized children; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Adele Zaveduk is survived by her husband, Benjamin
11Zaveduk; her sons, Victor (Barb) and Mitchell (Abra) Zaveduk;
12her grandchildren, Kaylee and Maya Zaveduk; her brother, Henri
13(Barbara) Zaveduk; her sisters, Josette Laznowski (Jaime
14Graievsky) and Sylvia Frydman (Daniel Gabe); her numerous
15nieces, and nephews, and their families; and an extended family
16of dear friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Adele Zaveduk and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
20friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Adele Zaveduk an expression of our
