2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Louis J. "Louie" Giordano, formerly of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on May 3, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was born in Springfield to Carl and | ||||||
6 | Louise (Gentile) Giordano on December 22, 1946; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Griffin High School and received his bachelor's degree | ||||||
8 | from Illinois College and his master's degree in political | ||||||
9 | studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was active in local and state | ||||||
11 | government for much of his life; he founded Giordano Consulting | ||||||
12 | Services, which became a successful government relations firm | ||||||
13 | that provided legislative services to several statewide trade | ||||||
14 | associations in Illinois; he also co-founded the Systems | ||||||
15 | Evaluation and Analysis Group, which teamed with notable | ||||||
16 | companies, including IBM, Novell, and others, to introduce | ||||||
17 | computer networking systems to several state agencies and | ||||||
18 | private businesses; his company maintained offices in | ||||||
19 | Springfield, Schaumburg, and Phoenix, Arizona; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano served in Governor James | ||||||
21 | Thompson's Cabinet for five years as director of the Department | ||||||
22 | of Personnel and as the first director of the Department of |

1 | Central Management Services; preceding his cabinet positions, | ||||||
2 | he was responsible for the re-design of the social services | ||||||
3 | delivery system in the Department of Children and Family | ||||||
4 | Services and was the chief administrative officer for the | ||||||
5 | Department of Public Aid, where in addition to his | ||||||
6 | administrative role, he designed and managed the | ||||||
7 | implementation of the first and most innovative photo I.D. | ||||||
8 | system in the nation; he also served as executive director of | ||||||
9 | the Illinois Republican Party for two years; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano taught Public Administration and | ||||||
11 | Political Science at Loyola University of Chicago and the | ||||||
12 | College of DuPage; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano enjoyed playing golf and | ||||||
14 | basketball, attending sporting events, and traveling; his | ||||||
15 | favorite travel destination was Italy; his love of golf led him | ||||||
16 | to design a unique putter and market it under the Sweetroll | ||||||
17 | trade name; he also received several U.S. patents for golf club | ||||||
18 | designs; he coached and mentored young golfers on the | ||||||
19 | Springfield College of Illinois golf team; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was a member of the Illini Country | ||||||
21 | Club, the Panther Creek Country Club, the University Club of | ||||||
22 | Chicago, and the Anthem Country Club; and

1 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents and his sister, Clara-Marie Krumwiede; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Louie Giordano is survived by his wife, Aimee; his | ||||||
4 | sons, John (Christina) and Mark; his daughter, Tamara Root; his | ||||||
5 | brothers, Carl (Martha) and Patrick (Anita); his sisters, Paula | ||||||
6 | (Keith) Moore and Nancy (Thomas) Curry; four grandchildren; and | ||||||
7 | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
10 | Louis J. "Louie" Giordano and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
11 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
12 | further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the family of Louie Giordano as an expression of | ||||||
15 | our deepest sympathy.
