SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis J. "Louie" Giordano, formerly of
4Springfield, who passed away on May 3, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was born in Springfield to Carl and
6Louise (Gentile) Giordano on December 22, 1946; he graduated
7from Griffin High School and received his bachelor's degree
8from Illinois College and his master's degree in political
9studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was active in local and state
11government for much of his life; he founded Giordano Consulting
12Services, which became a successful government relations firm
13that provided legislative services to several statewide trade
14associations in Illinois; he also co-founded the Systems
15Evaluation and Analysis Group, which teamed with notable
16companies, including IBM, Novell, and others, to introduce
17computer networking systems to several state agencies and
18private businesses; his company maintained offices in
19Springfield, Schaumburg, and Phoenix, Arizona; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano served in Governor James
21Thompson's Cabinet for five years as director of the Department
22of Personnel and as the first director of the Department of

1Central Management Services; preceding his cabinet positions,
2he was responsible for the re-design of the social services
3delivery system in the Department of Children and Family
4Services and was the chief administrative officer for the
5Department of Public Aid, where in addition to his
6administrative role, he designed and managed the
7implementation of the first and most innovative photo I.D.
8system in the nation; he also served as executive director of
9the Illinois Republican Party for two years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano taught Public Administration and
11Political Science at Loyola University of Chicago and the
12College of DuPage; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano enjoyed playing golf and
14basketball, attending sporting events, and traveling; his
15favorite travel destination was Italy; his love of golf led him
16to design a unique putter and market it under the Sweetroll
17trade name; he also received several U.S. patents for golf club
18designs; he coached and mentored young golfers on the
19Springfield College of Illinois golf team; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was a member of the Illini Country
21Club, the Panther Creek Country Club, the University Club of
22Chicago, and the Anthem Country Club; and

1    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano was preceded in death by his
2parents and his sister, Clara-Marie Krumwiede; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Louie Giordano is survived by his wife, Aimee; his
4sons, John (Christina) and Mark; his daughter, Tamara Root; his
5brothers, Carl (Martha) and Patrick (Anita); his sisters, Paula
6(Keith) Moore and Nancy (Thomas) Curry; four grandchildren; and
7several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Louis J. "Louie" Giordano and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Louie Giordano as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
