SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gary Anthony Knight of Springfield, who
4passed away on May 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Knight was born on December 27, 1941; he grew
6up in the oil fields of Brownstown with his parents, Herman and
7Ruth (Bullard) Knight, and his siblings, Vic and Linda; he
8served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1961 to 1963, where he
9witnessed the Berlin Wall being built; he graduated from
10Lincoln Christian College; he earned his master's degree from
11Illinois State University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gary Knight ministered in two parishes before
13choosing to serve the State of Illinois as an Illinois State
14Police officer from 1969 to 1993; he worked as a trooper and as
15executive security for then-Governor Dan Walker; while earning
16his master's degree, he joined the Division of Forensic
17Services as a crime scene investigator; he solved many murders
18and criminal cases before retiring as the assistant bureau
19chief of Crime Scene; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gary Knight was deeply devoted to his faith; he
21was known as a consummate jokester who brought levity to almost
22any situation, while being serious about friends, family, and

1faith; he will be remembered as a father, friend, and husband
2who filled his loved ones' hearts with joyful memories; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gary Knight was preceded in death by his parents
4and his brother, Vic (Sue) Knight; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Knight is survived by his wife of 45 years,
6Marcia (Petersen) Knight; his sons, Christopher (Will) and
7Joshua (Desire); his daughters, Kimberly (Mike Humphrey) and
8Kimberlee; his great-nephews, John Blocks and Lee Blocks; his
9grandchildren, Seth Knight, Chloee Knight, Taylor Humphrey,
10Gillian Humphrey, Winston Knight, and Haddon Knight; and his
11sister, Linda (Ronald) Thomas; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Gary Anthony Knight and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Gary Knight as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
