SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harvey LaVerne Benedict of Waukegan, who
4passed away on February 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was born in Tampa, Florida to
6LaVerne Shephard and Elsie Louise Benedict (Zecetschke) on
7December 29, 1925; he graduated from Waukegan Township High
8School in January of 1944 and served in the U.S. Marines during
9World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1945; he married
10Nola Gene Nielsen on October 24, 1959, and they settled in
11Waukegan in 1961; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict worked for many years at the
13Commonwealth Edison nuclear power plant in Zion; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was a member of St. Paul's
15Lutheran Church and the American Legion; he enjoyed working
16around the house, traveling, camping with his family, and
17learning the family history and genealogy; he also enjoyed an
18Italian beef sandwich from Portillo's and a nice hot cup of
19coffee; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was preceded in death by his
21parents; his sister, Nancy Pataky; his brother-in-law, Ralph

1Pataky; and his long-time friend and brother-in-law, Victor
2Geib; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict is survived by his wife, Nola Gene
4Benedict; his children, Todd (Amy) Benedict, Lee (Jackie)
5Benedict, and Lynnette (Rick) Adkins; his grandchildren, Evan
6(Morgan) Sims, Coulson (Taitum) Sims, Andrew Benedict, and
7Jacob Benedict; his sister, Marion Geib; and many nephews and
8nieces and their children; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Harvey LaVerne Benedict and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Harvey Benedict as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
