| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers of Springfield, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 1, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers was born to Alan J. and Pauline Shaver | ||||||
6 | Myers in Springfield on September 15, 1931; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Springfield High School and then as Cum Laude from the | ||||||
8 | University of Miami in 1953; from 1953 to 1956, he was in | ||||||
9 | active duty with the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of | ||||||
10 | lieutenant; he married Dorothy "June" Dunseth on July 6, 1958; | ||||||
11 | he remained in the Navy Reserve until 1975; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers worked for Macy's in New York and then | ||||||
13 | for Myers Brothers, where he retired as Executive Vice | ||||||
14 | President in 1979; he was then a commercial real estate broker | ||||||
15 | until his retirement in 1999; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a 60 year member of the First United | ||||||
17 | Methodist Church, where he served on the board; he was elected | ||||||
18 | to the school board for District 186, was a board member of | ||||||
19 | SCADA, DPI, and the Fancy Creek Cemetery Association, and was a | ||||||
20 | member of the Sangamo Club and the Springfield Art Association; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a big supporter of youth sports; he | ||||||
2 | found great joy in sharing sweet corn and other bounty from the | ||||||
3 | farm; he and his wife loved spending winters in Mexico and | ||||||
4 | summers in the caboose on the farm; the farm was never far from | ||||||
5 | his heart or soul; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers was preceded in death by his parents and | ||||||
7 | his wife; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lou Myers is survived by his children, Julie Myers | ||||||
9 | (Cass) Casper, Stephen Dunseth (Terri Blake) Myers, and Scott | ||||||
10 | Dunseth (Erica) Myers; his five grandchildren, Myers | ||||||
11 | (Christine) Dill, Jake M., Emiko M., Blake E., and John W.S. | ||||||
12 | Myers; his great-grandchild, Lucia Dill; his great-grandson | ||||||
13 | due in February of 2021; and his sister, Suzanne Giesze; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
17 | Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Lou Myers as an expression of
our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
