SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers of Springfield,
4who passed away on September 1, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lou Myers was born to Alan J. and Pauline Shaver
6Myers in Springfield on September 15, 1931; he graduated from
7Springfield High School and then as Cum Laude from the
8University of Miami in 1953; from 1953 to 1956, he was in
9active duty with the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of
10lieutenant; he married Dorothy "June" Dunseth on July 6, 1958;
11he remained in the Navy Reserve until 1975; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lou Myers worked for Macy's in New York and then
13for Myers Brothers, where he retired as Executive Vice
14President in 1979; he was then a commercial real estate broker
15until his retirement in 1999; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a 60 year member of the First United
17Methodist Church, where he served on the board; he was elected
18to the school board for District 186, was a board member of
19SCADA, DPI, and the Fancy Creek Cemetery Association, and was a
20member of the Sangamo Club and the Springfield Art Association;

1    WHEREAS, Lou Myers was a big supporter of youth sports; he
2found great joy in sharing sweet corn and other bounty from the
3farm; he and his wife loved spending winters in Mexico and
4summers in the caboose on the farm; the farm was never far from
5his heart or soul; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lou Myers was preceded in death by his parents and
7his wife; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lou Myers is survived by his children, Julie Myers
9(Cass) Casper, Stephen Dunseth (Terri Blake) Myers, and Scott
10Dunseth (Erica) Myers; his five grandchildren, Myers
11(Christine) Dill, Jake M., Emiko M., Blake E., and John W.S.
12Myers; his great-grandchild, Lucia Dill; his great-grandson
13due in February of 2021; and his sister, Suzanne Giesze;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Louis "Lou" Shaver Myers and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Lou Myers as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
