2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3263 by replacing |
3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | | "Section 5. The Farm Fresh Schools Program Act is amended |
5 | | by changing Sections 10 and 15 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 124/10)

7 | | Sec. 10. Farm Fresh Schools Program. The Department of |
8 | | Agriculture, in cooperation with the State Board of Education |
9 | | and the Department of Public Health, shall create the Farm |
10 | | Fresh Schools Program. The intent of the Program is to reduce |
11 | | obesity and improve nutrition and public health, as well as |
12 | | strengthen local agricultural economies by increasing access |
13 | | to and promoting the consumption of locally grown fruits , and |
14 | | vegetables , and minimally processed fresh foods in schools and |
15 | | increasing physical activities and programs that promote pupil |
16 | | wellness.

3 | | Sec. 15. Grants ; matching funds . |
4 | | (a) The Department of Agriculture and the State Board of |
5 | | Education shall jointly administer a process to review grant |
6 | | proposals and award grants on a competitive basis to eligible |
7 | | applicants to implement the Farm Fresh Schools Program. |
8 | | (b) The first 6 grants awarded pursuant to the Farm Fresh |
9 | | Schools Program shall be awarded in 6 different counties, |
10 | | including 3 urban counties and 3 rural counties with a |
11 | | significant agricultural economy. |
12 | | (c) Subject to appropriation, beginning with the 2022-2023 |
13 | | school year, funds from the Farm Fresh Schools Program Fund or |
14 | | from other funding sources shall be used to match $1 for every |
15 | | $3 a school district spends to purchase produce or minimally |
16 | | processed fresh foods directly from a farmer, farmers' |
17 | | cooperative, farmers' market, or local food hub in this State, |
18 | | up to a maximum reimbursement of $1,000 per school district.
