1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
527-24.9 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/27-24.9)
7    Sec. 27-24.9. Driver education standards. The State Board
8of Education, in consultation with the Secretary of State, an
9association representing teachers of driver education,
10students, education practitioners, including, but not limited
11to, teachers in colleges of education, administrators, and
12regional superintendents of schools, shall adopt rigorous
13learning course content standards for the classroom and
14laboratory phases of driver education for novice teen drivers
15those persons under the age of 18 years, including, but not
16limited to, the Novice Teen Driver Education and Training
17Administrative Standards developed and written by the
18Association of National Stakeholders in Traffic Safety
19Education in affiliation with the National Highway
20Transportation Safety Administration. The national learning
21standards may be adapted to meet Illinois licensing and
22educational requirements, including classroom and
23behind-the-wheel hours and the cognitive, physiological, and

1psychological aspects of , which shall include the safe
2operation of a motor vehicle and equipment of motor vehicles.
3As the national standards are updated, the Board shall update
4these learning standards.
