1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5078

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5078 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| ||||||
4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 3-664 as follows: | ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper | ||||||
8 | application, the Secretary of State shall
issue registration | ||||||
9 | plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois | ||||||
10 | resident who is the
surviving widow, widower, sibling, | ||||||
11 | daughter, son, or parent of a person who served in the Armed | ||||||
12 | Forces of the United States and
lost his or her life while in | ||||||
13 | service whether in peacetime or war. The
surviving widow or | ||||||
14 | widower and each surviving parent, daughter, son, and sibling | ||||||
15 | shall be issued one or more sets of registration plates. | ||||||
16 | Registration plates issued under this
Section shall be for |

| |||||||
1 | first division vehicles and second division vehicles
of 8,000 | ||||||
2 | pounds or less. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, | ||||||
3 | allow the plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates | ||||||
4 | in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. No | ||||||
5 | registration fee shall be required from a surviving widows, | ||||||
6 | widowers, parents, or children of persons widow, widower, or | ||||||
7 | parent of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the United | ||||||
8 | States : and
lost his or her life while in service while in | ||||||
9 | wartime.

10 | (1) who lost their lives during World War I, World War | ||||||
11 | II, or during any subsequent period of armed hostilities | ||||||
12 | in which the United States was engaged before July 1, | ||||||
13 | 1958; | ||||||
14 | (2) who lost or lose their lives after June 30, 1958: | ||||||
15 | while engaged in military operations involving conflict | ||||||
16 | with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with | ||||||
17 | friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict in | ||||||
18 | which the United States is not a belligerent party against | ||||||
19 | an opposing armed force; or | ||||||
20 | (3) who lost or lose their lives after March 28, 1973, | ||||||
21 | as a result of: an international terrorist attack against | ||||||
22 | the United States or a foreign nation friendly to the | ||||||
23 | United States, recognized as such an attack by the | ||||||
24 | Secretary of Defense; or military operations while serving | ||||||
25 | outside the United States (including the commonwealths, | ||||||
26 | territories, and possessions of the United States) as part |
