HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kathleen
4Elizabeth Mau of Elgin, who passed away on February 11, 2021;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was born to Stanley and Marlene
7Malone Kenney in Park Ridge on February 6, 1970; she graduated
8from Lake Forest College in 1992; she was married to her
9husband Chris for 13 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau worked at Sears in various
11management positions for over 25 years until 2014; most
12recently, she owned and managed the Blue Box Café in Elgin;
13since opening in 2014 at 176 E. Chicago St., the "Doctor
14Who"-themed Blue Box grew strong roots in the community and
15became known not only for its espresso coffee and signature
16sandwiches but also for its support of nerd culture; it has
17been a hub for live events, including podcast fundraisers,
18record release parties, live theater, improv, mini comic book
19conventions and, of course, "Doctor Who" events; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau served as a mentor and leader of the
21Youth and Young Adult Mission at First Congregational Church
22of Elgin; she was a very loving and caring person and always

1looked for ways to help those in need; she touched many lives
2with her positive attitude and her love of life; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau often attended Comic Conventions and
4events with her husband; she loved animals and enjoyed
5traveling to new places, especially to try the local cuisine;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was preceded in death by her father,
8Stanley Kenney; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau is survived by her husband,
10Christopher Mau; her pets, Angus and Fiona; her mother,
11Marlene Kenney; her brother, Brian (Michelle Kinnun) Kenney;
12her nephew, Cole; her niece, Megan; her aunt, Patt Malone; and
13her uncles, Steve Malone, Robert (Donna) Malone, and Dennis
14(Virginia) Malone; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Kathleen Elizabeth Mau and extend our
18sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Kathleen Mau as an expression of our
