2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kathleen | ||||||
4 | Elizabeth Mau of Elgin, who passed away on February 11, 2021; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was born to Stanley and Marlene | ||||||
7 | Malone Kenney in Park Ridge on February 6, 1970; she graduated | ||||||
8 | from Lake Forest College in 1992; she was married to her | ||||||
9 | husband Chris for 13 years; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau worked at Sears in various | ||||||
11 | management positions for over 25 years until 2014; most | ||||||
12 | recently, she owned and managed the Blue Box Café in Elgin; | ||||||
13 | since opening in 2014 at 176 E. Chicago St., the "Doctor | ||||||
14 | Who"-themed Blue Box grew strong roots in the community and | ||||||
15 | became known not only for its espresso coffee and signature | ||||||
16 | sandwiches but also for its support of nerd culture; it has | ||||||
17 | been a hub for live events, including podcast fundraisers, | ||||||
18 | record release parties, live theater, improv, mini comic book | ||||||
19 | conventions and, of course, "Doctor Who" events; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau served as a mentor and leader of the | ||||||
21 | Youth and Young Adult Mission at First Congregational Church | ||||||
22 | of Elgin; she was a very loving and caring person and always |

1 | looked for ways to help those in need; she touched many lives | ||||||
2 | with her positive attitude and her love of life; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau often attended Comic Conventions and | ||||||
4 | events with her husband; she loved animals and enjoyed | ||||||
5 | traveling to new places, especially to try the local cuisine; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau was preceded in death by her father, | ||||||
8 | Stanley Kenney; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Kathleen Mau is survived by her husband, | ||||||
10 | Christopher Mau; her pets, Angus and Fiona; her mother, | ||||||
11 | Marlene Kenney; her brother, Brian (Michelle Kinnun) Kenney; | ||||||
12 | her nephew, Cole; her niece, Megan; her aunt, Patt Malone; and | ||||||
13 | her uncles, Steve Malone, Robert (Donna) Malone, and Dennis | ||||||
14 | (Virginia) Malone; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
17 | we mourn the passing of Kathleen Elizabeth Mau and extend our | ||||||
18 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
19 | and loved her; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Kathleen Mau as an expression of our |
