HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Shawn
4Denise Johnson, a long-time resident of Waukegan, who passed
5away on September 20, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson was licensed as an instructor in
7cosmetology and as a nail technician; she was the CEO and
8founder of the Image Beauty Institute, the first and only
9State of Illinois Department of Regulations Nail Technology
10School in Waukegan; opening in December of 2014, the Image
11Beauty Institute has graduated over 30 students who have
12successfully passed the State of Illinois State Board Exam to
13become professionally licensed nail technicians; five of these
14graduates have opened beautiful salons around the Lake County
15area; she also developed, published, and founded the From
16Jails to Nails Life Management Skills Reentry Program; this
17curriculum-based program helps support individuals with
18non-violent convictions transition back into the community
19after incarceration; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson will especially be remembered for
21volunteering a great deal of her time to help make the city a
22better place to live not only for herself and her family but
23for women having problems with recidivism and those that

1lacked employable job skills; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson is survived by her four children,
3Stephanie, Stephen, TraMane, and Mark; her godson, Marce
4O'Neal; her six grandchildren; her sisters, Dawn Johnson,
5Charlene Valdez-Simelton, and Nikki Johnson; her brothers,
6Ralph (Nicole) Johnson Jr., Christopher Johnson, and Ivan
7(Rocher) Johnson; and her mother, Ethel Lene Rogers;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Shawn Denise Johnson and extend our
12sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Shawn Johnson as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
