HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Theotha
4Lane, who passed away on April 6, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was born in Inverness, Mississippi
6to Marion Sr. and Francis Lane on August 15, 1947; he was a
7member of Holy Grove Church and attended Gentry Elementary
8School; his family relocated to Chicago, where he graduated
9from John Marshall High School; he married Mary Lane on August
1029, 1977, and they shared 41 years of marriage with a blended
11family of seven children; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane worked at Courtesy Food, Daniel's
13Country, and Johnnie's; he also worked for General Motors and
14then at Chatham Foods; he later worked at County Fair, where he
15retired as a produce manager; he owned a grocery store on the
16West Side of Chicago, created "Honey Do" Delivery Services,
17and was known as DJ "Hangout Daddy" on the West and South Sides
18of Chicago for over 30 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane attended Prince of Peace Missionary
20Baptist Church, where he served as a choir member with the Male
21Choir; he later joined the Everlasting Love Outreach Ministry,
22where he served as a deacon and chairman; and

1    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was affectionately known as
2"Rooster"; he enjoyed being a Precinct Captain in the 16th
3Ward and had a heart for service and a love for people; he
4enjoyed singing songs by The Canton Spirituals and The
5Williams Brothers and was an avant gardener with a beautiful
6green thumb; he loved playing double fifteen dominoes with his
7brother Arthur and his brother-in-law Eldridge; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was preceded in death by his
9sisters, Sara, Beulah, Carrie, Sue, and Mae Emma; his
10brothers, Marion Jr., Jimmy, Clinton, and Louis; his
11granddaughter, Brianna Jenkins; and his grandson, Dwayne
12Jones; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Theotha Lane is survived by his children, Abigail
14(Elliot) Lagrone, Verleaner Lane, Dwayne (Adela) Jones,
15Camille Lane, Mary F. Lane-Jenkins, Leslie Harris, and Tommie
16Harris; his brothers, Arthur (Margie) Lane and Rev. Leonard
17(Amy) Lane; his brothers-in-law, Eldridge Glover and Kenneth
18(Loretta) Byest; his sisters-in-law, LaVern Lane, Carolyn
19Lane, Linda Lane, Linda (Saul) Nutall, Odean Burks, and Bobbie
20(Zeb) Hinds; his 12 grandchildren and eight
21great-grandchildren; his Godson, Renaldo Moore; his special
22daughter, TiChina Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews, family,
23and friends; and his dog, Rusty; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Theotha Lane and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Theotha Lane as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
