2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terry | ||||||
4 | Lovell Dean, who passed away on September 19, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean was born in Chicago to Thomas Sr. and | ||||||
6 | Mary Dean on June 22, 1974; he attended Malcolm X College and | ||||||
7 | received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois | ||||||
8 | University Carbondale; he later earned his master's degree in | ||||||
9 | journalism and mass communication from Columbia College | ||||||
10 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean worked as a newspaper editor for the | ||||||
12 | Austin Weekly News and as a columnist for the Wednesday | ||||||
13 | Journal in Oak Park; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean received several awards and accolades | ||||||
15 | from his peers and associates for his exceptional work in the | ||||||
16 | community and his commitment to cooperative economics; he was | ||||||
17 | smart and insightful and had an intellectual curiosity that | ||||||
18 | served him and his readers well; his greatest contribution was | ||||||
19 | as a mentor to others in his field, and his message to aspiring | ||||||
20 | writers was to read your local paper and as many books as you | ||||||
21 | could, find your voice, and be connected to the community; he | ||||||
22 | was an active member of the Illinois Press Association; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean enjoyed reading, watching movies, and | ||||||
2 | listening to a diverse catalog of music; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Terry Dean is survived by his daughter, Amiri, | ||||||
6 | who he affectionately called "Buttercup"; his brothers, Thomas | ||||||
7 | Jr. and Talman Sr. (Celeste); his sisters, Yvette (William) | ||||||
8 | and Letitia; his nieces, Trans, Dorothy, Sakeena, and | ||||||
9 | Maurianna; and his nephews, Maurice, Talman Jr., Montgomery, | ||||||
10 | and Patrick; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we mourn the passing of Terry Lovell Dean and extend our | ||||||
14 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
15 | and loved him; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Terry Dean as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | deepest sympathy.
