HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald
4E. "Don" Van Cleave, who passed away on September 2, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Ray
6and Agnes Van Cleave; he graduated from the University of Iowa
7and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the
8Korean War; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave worked for Standard Oil Company
10for over three decades; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave committed himself to a life of
12service in retirement; he volunteered with PADS, the Palatine
13Senior Center, the Palatine Township Food Pantry, Northwest
14Community Hospital, and many other organizations and
15charities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, One of Don Van Cleave's great joys was serving as
17the "Banana Man" at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health
18Care Center in Chicago, where he wheeled a cart of fruit into
19the rooms of injured soldiers and gave them bananas, an eager
20ear, and a sympathetic heart to help them in their healing
21process; and

1    WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Don Van Cleave enjoyed
2playing golf, walking through the neighborhood, having a
3doughnut and coffee with friends, and being around his
4cherished grandchildren; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was a member of the First United
6Church, the First United Methodist Men's Group, the Palatine
7Masonic Lodge, High Twelve, and Eastern Star Chapter #585; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was preceded in death by his
9brother, Dick; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave is survived by his beloved wife,
11Janet Van Cleave; his sister, Marcia; his two sons and their
12spouses, Aron and Katy Van Cleave and Ryan and Victoria Van
13Cleave; his wonderful grandchildren, Valerie, Veronica, Sadie,
14and Liam; and many friends and extended family members;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Donald E. Van Cleave, commend his
19service to the community, and extend our sincere condolences
20to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
21it further
