2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary | ||||||
4 | Alice Johnson, who passed away on December 24, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Johnson was born in Forrest City, Arkansas | ||||||
6 | to Isaac Sr. and Ella Mae Reese on May 4, 1943; at age five, | ||||||
7 | she moved with her family to Chicago and attended Stone Temple | ||||||
8 | Missionary Baptist Church on Chicago's west side; she attended | ||||||
9 | Julius Hay Hess School and graduated from John Marshall High | ||||||
10 | School; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, After graduating, Mary Johnson went to work as a | ||||||
12 | seamstress at a local cleaners on Chicago's west side; she | ||||||
13 | married Joe Louis Johnson on October 28, 1960 and became a | ||||||
14 | homemaker for many years; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After raising her children, Mary Johnson began | ||||||
16 | working for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as a customer | ||||||
17 | assistant in February 1990; she also served as a conductor and | ||||||
18 | union representative; she was very devoted to her job; she was | ||||||
19 | never late and never called in sick; she was loved by many of | ||||||
20 | her coworkers, and some of them became lifelong friends; she | ||||||
21 | retired in March 2011, after 21 years of service; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mary Johnson had a big heart and was one of the | ||||||
2 | kindest people you could meet; she loved going to church, the | ||||||
3 | casino, dining out, cooking, and dancing; most of all, she | ||||||
4 | loved her family unconditionally; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Johnson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
6 | husband, Joe Louis Johnson; her children, Joseph Johnson and | ||||||
7 | Dante Johnson; her parents; her sisters, Victoria Bryant, Mae | ||||||
8 | Ella Alexander, and Cozetta Scott; and her brother, Isaac | ||||||
9 | Reese Jr.; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Mary Johnson is survived by her children, Steven | ||||||
11 | (Michelle), Landis, Cheryl (Ricky), Carla (Levertis), and | ||||||
12 | Corey (Lasina); 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; | ||||||
13 | her brother, Joe Watts; her special sister-in-law, Gennell | ||||||
14 | Reese; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and | ||||||
15 | coworkers; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | we mourn the passing of Mary Alice Johnson and extend our | ||||||
19 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
20 | and loved her; and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Mary Johnson as an expression of our |
