HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Elgin O'Hare Western Access (EOWA) Project is
3regionally and nationally significant; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project will
5improve access to a major job center, surrounding communities,
6and the O'Hare Airport; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project includes
817 miles of new roads with 15 new or improved interchanges as
9part of a new, all-electronic toll road that includes
10rehabilitating and widening Illinois Route 390, formerly known
11as the Elgin O'Hare Expressway, and extending it east along
12Thorndale Avenue to O'Hare International Airport and building
13a new roadway around the western border of O'Hare, linking the
14Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and the Tri-State Tollway
15(I-294); and
 
16    WHEREAS, As part of the Move Illinois Program, the
17Illinois Tollway has committed $3.1 billion toward the $3.4
18billion needed to begin building the Elgin O'Hare Western
19Access Project in 2013; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Construction projects of 2021 on I-490 western
21access to O'Hare International Airport are firmly underway;

2    WHEREAS, There are several years to go until the new
3corridor is complete; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Interchange improvements are causing road
5closures and traffic delays; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project has
7experienced past delays due to funding issues; therefore, be
8it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we urge the Illinois Toll Highway Authority and the Illinois
12Department of Transportation to provide a written report
13regarding the Elgin O'Hare Western Access (EOWA) Project to
14the General Assembly; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16delivered to the Illinois Toll Highway Authority and the
17Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
