HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Roger Addelson on his five
4years of distinguished service as a Vernon Township Trustee;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Roger Addelson helped oversee the expansion of
7hours of the Vernon Township Food Pantry and its conversion
8into a grocery store experience, so the Vernon Township
9community's seniors, immigrants, and people in need would have
10access to a reliable, dignified source of healthful food; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Roger Addelson spearheaded the creation of the
12Vernon Township Energy Resilience Commission and championed
13initiatives that would fight climate change, reduce Vernon
14Township's dependence on fossil fuels, and promote
15conservation efforts; projects were completed to weatherize
16Vernon Township's facilities to reduce energy consumption and
17save taxpayers money; Vernon Township established a free
18community garden to supply fresh produce to the food pantry;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Roger Addelson supported Vernon Township's
21efforts to address the COVID-19 crisis; free masks and hand
22sanitizer were distributed to residents; a call center was

1established to help connect local seniors with appointments to
2receive the COVID-19 vaccine; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roger Addelson contributed to these
4accomplishments without once raising Vernon Township's
5property tax levy; he was a leader in Vernon Township's
6efforts to solicit grants to support and expand services; the
7Township Board increased and improved services without
8increasing taxes by cutting unnecessary expenses, identifying
9alternative sources of revenue, consolidating Vernon
10Township's road district to eliminate unnecessary
11administrative expenses, and maximizing the value of its
12existing assets; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roger Addelson was passionate about building a
14local government that is responsive to the needs of the most
15vulnerable members of our community; he oversaw the
16establishment of Vernon Township's first ever Welcoming and
17Inclusion Policy to ensure that all residents are treated with
18respect, fairness, and dignity regardless of their ethnicity,
19religion, nation of origin, or federal immigration status; he
20advocated to ensure that the township's employees were fairly
21compensated and were provided a safe workplace free from
22harassment or discrimination; therefore, be it

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we commend Roger Addelson on his years of dignified and
3faithful service to the people of Vernon Township; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Roger Addelson as an expression of our esteem and
7respect.
