HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John E.
4Price III of Thebes, who passed away on January 31, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Price was born to John E. and Zelma (Bowles)
6Price Jr. in Cairo on January 29, 1956; he was a lifelong
7resident of Southern Illinois; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Price was a retired business agent and
9secretary treasurer for Local 773, and he dedicated his life
10to the working men and women of the union and The Laborers
11Charitable Foundation of Local 773; he began working
12construction through Local 773 in the summer of 1976; he was
13appointed business manager of Local 773 in Cairo in 1998,
14representing construction, industrial, public employees, and
15health care workers; he later became a representative for
16railroad construction and maintenance, environmental clean-up,
17and derailment members; he was appointed to the Board of
18Trustees of the Railroad Maintenance & Industrial Health and
19Welfare Fund in 2002; after the 2003 merger, he was elected as
20secretary-treasurer for Local 773 in Marion, vice president of
2112th District AFL/CIO Community on Political Education
22(C.O.P.E.), sergeant at arms for the Southern and Central
23Illinois Laborers' District Council, and delegate to the LiUNA

1National Convention until his retirement in 2017; after his
2retirement, he served the local union by remaining on the
3Local 773 Retiree Board, where he later served as president;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Price served on numerous boards, including
6the Shawnee Community College Foundation as a board member and
7chairman, The Laborers Care (TLC), the Alexander County
8Housing Authority, the Alexander County Port Authority Board,
9the Horseshoe Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Local 773
10Credit Union, Railcet, the Railroad Training Board, the
11Alexander County Building Commission as commissioner, Local
12773 Southern Illinois Laborers Health & Welfare, and Delta
13Development; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Price was a member and trustee of the Olive
15Branch United Methodist Church; he was a former deputy for the
16Pulaski County Sheriff's Department from 1980 until 1987; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Price loved his family deeply and cherished
18every friendship he made; he loved fishing, riding his
19side-by-side with his grandson, and working in the yard; he
20was ready to help when anyone had a need, and he was usually
21the first one there and the last to leave; and
 
22    WHEREAS, John Price was preceded in death by his parents;

2    WHEREAS, John Price is survived by his wife, Nancy Price;
3his sons, John E. Price IV, Zachary Cache Price, and Trenton
4Chase Price (Sara Kuehl); his brother, Ronald (Martha) Price;
5his sister, Pamela (Mike) Malone; his grandson, Lincoln
6Everette Price; his soon-to-arrive grandchild, John Price; and
7his numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of John E. Price III and extend our
12sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of John Price as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
