HOUSE RESOLUTION

2    WHEREAS, There are over 400 specialized dentists known as
3endodontists in Illinois; and

4    WHEREAS, Endodontists are dental experts who are highly
5skilled in diagnosing and treating tooth pain, performing root
6canal treatment, and treating dental emergencies even during
7the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the need for
8patients to seek emergency dental care at Emergency Rooms and
9Urgent Care facilities; they complete three years of
10specialized training beyond dental school with that additional
11training focusing on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root
12canal treatment and other procedures relating to the interior
13of the tooth; in many cases, a diseased tooth can be saved with
14endodontic treatment; and

15    WHEREAS, Endodontists have incredible precision and
16hand-eye coordination, making them highly skilled in
17performing complex treatments; they use the most current and
18advanced technology to treat dental patients; no one is better
19at saving a patient's natural teeth; and

20    WHEREAS, Endodontists perform many other endodontic
21treatments and surgeries and address traumatic dental
22injuries; their goal is to save a patient's natural teeth

1whenever possible; however, an endodontist will look at all
2treatment options to determine the best course of action for
3each individual case; and

4    WHEREAS, Endodontists limit their practice solely to
5endodontic treatments and perform an average of 25 root canal
6treatments a week; specialized treatment gives patients the
7best outcome and allows them to heal faster; for this reason,
8dentists and endodontists often work as partners in care so
9that the best member of the dental team is handling each
10appropriate issue with a patient's teeth; and

11    WHEREAS, Teeth are a gateway to nutrition, are used to
12express emotion, and are a sign of overall good health; poor
13oral hygiene can lead to other health problems; regular dental
14visits, flossing, brushing thoroughly at least twice a day,
15and refraining from foods and habits that can cause cavities
16are important steps for maintaining the overall health of
17one's gums, teeth, and mouth and can help maintain teeth for a
18lifetime; therefore, be it

19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we declare May of 2022 as Save Your Tooth Month; and be it
