HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Mary E. Robinson on the
4occasion of being named a Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha
5Sorority, Incorporated (AKA); and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is an
7international service organization that was founded on the
8campus of Howard University in 1908 and incorporated in 1913;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the nation's
11oldest African-American Greek letter organization for
12college-educated women who have committed themselves to
13providing extraordinary "Service to All Mankind" for the past
14114 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is comprised of
16nearly 300,000 members in approximately 1,018 graduate and
17undergraduate chapters in the United States, the U.S. Virgin
18Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, Germany, Japan,
19Liberia, and South Korea; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Many prominent Illinois women have been or are
21members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., including Lt.

1Governor Julianna Stratton, Senator and Majority Caucus Chair
2Mattie Hunter, and Representative LaToya Greenwood; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mary Robinson has been given the title of Golden
4Soror, which is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
5Inc. who has served and continues to serve the organization
6for 50 years or more; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Robinson belongs to the Central Region of
8the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which was established in
9Chicago in 1919 and is comprised of Illinois, Indiana,
10Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
11and the southeastern portion of Missouri; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Robinson was honored at the public meeting
13of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s 88th Central Regional
14Conference in March 2022; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we recognize Mary E. Robinson on being named a Golden Soror of
18Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and commend the
19sorority for its commitment to scholarship, leadership, civic
20engagement, and public service; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

1presented to Mary Robinson and to the Delta Delta Omega and
2Theta Omega Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc. as an
3expression of our esteem and respect.
