HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael
4"Kip" Kipley, who passed away on March 20, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Kipley was born to Donald and Shirley
6Kipley in Harvey on November 9, 1951; he graduated from Quincy
7Senior High School, where he played football, in 1970; he
8attended Culver Stockton College where he also played
9football, the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory
10of Music, John Wood Community College where he received an
11Associate of Arts Degree, Quincy Technical School where he
12received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Design
13Technology with a Minor in Art and Psychology, and Quincy
14College where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in
15Photography; he married his beautiful bride and best friend
16Marlene S. Gamm Eaton in Quincy on June 9, 1989; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Kipley was fortunate enough to make a
18career out of his love for photography and worked for 35 years
19for the Quincy Herald-Whig; he retired as the director of
20photography in 2018; he had a passion for capturing
21challenging sports and action shots; his work has been
22published in the Chicago Sun-Times, USA Today, the Washington
23Post, Sports Illustrated, Glamour Magazine, Arizona Highways,

1and many other prominent publications; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Michael Kipley was recognized with numerous
3state, regional, and even national awards; he was known as
4"the photo guy" and rarely missed an opportunity to catch the
5perfect shot, doing whatever it took to capture the best
6picture; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Beside photography, Michael Kipley's passions
8included music, from playing guitar in a band in his younger
9days to playing for himself as a way to unwind as he grew into
10adulthood, working outside and perfecting his beautiful
11backyard, giving lawn mower rides to his grandson, Starbuck's
12Coffee, or any coffee really as long as it was fresh and hot,
13and watching sports, especially football, soccer, and, most of
14all, any sports his children played; a brilliant and curious
15man by nature, he enjoyed learning throughout his lifetime;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Kipley was preceded in death by his
18parents; his sister, Donna Sue Welsh; his niece in infancy,
19Katherine Rosina; and his beloved dogs, Cimm and Allie; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Michael Kipley is survived by his wife of 32
21years, Marlene; his two daughters, Emily Kipley and Kelsey
22Kipley; his son, Brian (Tiffaney) Eaton; his four

1grandchildren, Maria Mefford, Zane Burns, Kenson Eaton, and
2Rinsley Eaton; his brother, Dan (Lois) Kipley; his sister,
3Penny (Rusty Merkel) Kipley; his brother-in-law, Anthony
4"Tony" Welsh; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we mourn the passing of Michael "Kip" Kipley and extend our
9sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
10and loved him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Michael Kipley as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
