HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Over 50 years after Congress passed the
3Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), promising every
4worker the right to a safe job, the protections in OSHA have
5saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented millions of
6workplace injuries; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Despite current safety laws, millions of workers
8are injured and thousands of workers are killed due to job
9hazards each year; and
 
10    WHEREAS, On April 28, 2022, organized labor will observe
11Workers Memorial Day across the country to remember those who
12have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight for
13safe workplaces for all workers; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we declare April 28, 2022 as Workers Memorial Day in the State
17of Illinois; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we recognize that as long as workers are
19seriously injured or killed on the job, there will be a need to
20support stronger safety and health laws in our State and
21country; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois Congressional
2Delegation and President Joe Biden to continue to revise,
3revamp, and strengthen federal workplace safety laws and to
4properly fund OSHA programs and staff; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we offer our deep-felt sympathy and
6understanding to the families of workers who have been
7seriously injured or killed on the job.
