2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Darrell Levell Wimberly, | ||||||
4 | affectionately known as Mr. Wimbo, on the occasion of his | ||||||
5 | retirement from Marion High School after nearly 20 years; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was born in Louisville, Kentucky | ||||||
7 | on August 23, 1963; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was a standout athlete at Butler | ||||||
9 | High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he starred in | ||||||
10 | football and basketball; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly attended the University of | ||||||
12 | Louisville and found great success as a linebacker from 1978 | ||||||
13 | to 1982; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly tried out for the NFL with the | ||||||
15 | New York Jets, but life had bigger plans for him; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly built a successful career | ||||||
17 | selling insurance for Commonwealth Life Insurance in the | ||||||
18 | Louisville, Kentucky area for 20 years; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, In 2000, Darrell Wimberly moved to Marion, where |

1 | he sold insurance for five years before feeling called to | ||||||
2 | apply for a job with Marion High School; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly worked as a volunteer football | ||||||
4 | coach at Marion High School starting in 2000; he was hired as | ||||||
5 | Dean of Students at Marion High School in July 2002, and he has | ||||||
6 | worked as an administrator, football coach, and basketball | ||||||
7 | coach at Marion High School for nearly 20 years; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a mentor, | ||||||
9 | advocate, and role model for thousands of Marion High School | ||||||
10 | athletes and students, bettering their lives towards brighter | ||||||
11 | futures; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a pastor at East | ||||||
13 | Liberty Church in rural Marion since 2002; he has also served | ||||||
14 | as a guest speaker, prayer leader, and preacher at various | ||||||
15 | Marion area weddings, funerals, vigils, and community | ||||||
16 | gatherings; he has served on countless boards and committees | ||||||
17 | and with community organizations; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Through his service to his students and his | ||||||
19 | community, Darrell Wimberly has provided inspiration to his | ||||||
20 | fellow coaches, administrators, and teachers with his | ||||||
21 | positivity and guidance; and

1 | WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly married Deon Wimberly on | ||||||
2 | December 22, 1994, and he is a father of five children, | ||||||
3 | including two daughters and three stepchildren; therefore, be | ||||||
4 | it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
6 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
7 | we congratulate Darrell Levell Wimberly, affectionately known | ||||||
8 | as Mr. Wimbo, on his retirement from Marion High School after | ||||||
9 | nearly 20 years of service; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That we recognize Darrell Wimberly for his | ||||||
11 | positive impact on the lives of thousands of Marion students, | ||||||
12 | parents, residents, and community members during his career; | ||||||
13 | and be it further
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to Darrell Wimberly as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
16 | esteem.
