HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Symphony
4Orchestra on the occasion of its 30th anniversary in central
5Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was formed in
71993 as a consolidation of two well established organizations,
8the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Association and the
9Bloomington-Normal Symphony Society; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is central
11Illinois' largest professional orchestra, serving over 35,000
12patrons in the communities of Bloomington-Normal, Springfield,
13and the surrounding region through its symphony orchestra
14concerts, chamber orchestra concerts, and educational outreach
15concert program, Concerts for Kids; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Recognizing that live music has the potential to
17transform, rejuvenate, encourage, and inspire, the Illinois
18Symphony Orchestra proudly serves as a vital cultural
19resource, an educational partner, and an invaluable
20enhancement to the quality of life in Springfield and
21Bloomington-Normal; and

1    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs in
2Bloomington-Normal at the Bloomington Center for the
3Performing Arts and the Second Presbyterian Church and in
4Springfield at the Sangamon Auditorium and the First
5Presbyterian Church; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has appeared at
7Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York; it has also
8performed statewide, with appearances at the Illinois State
9Fair, Millennium Park in Chicago, and the Ravinia Festival in
10Highland Park; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has been actively
12involved in community engagement, including its 2009 Lincoln
13Bicentennial Celebration that involved over 1,000 performers
14and was named the Community Event of the Year by the Illinois
15Council of Orchestras and its commemorative concert for the
16150th Anniversary of the Lincoln Funeral Train in 2015 that
17included over 250 performers from throughout central Illinois;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, In recent years, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra
20has striven to continue entertaining and inspiring during
21COVID restrictions through its Get to Know the ISO series
22featured on its YouTube channel; and

1    WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was recently
2selected to be on the list of the top eight things visitors
3should see or do in Illinois by the website Only In Your State;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on the
8occasion of its 30th anniversary, and we thank current Music
9Director Ken Lam and all of the orchestra's musicians for
10enriching the lives of Central Illinois residents.
