HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Diabetes Awareness Day in
4the State of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Diabetes is a serious chronic disease that poses
6a major health problem; individuals with the disease are at an
7increased risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney
8failure, dental disease, and lower extremity amputations; the
9disease and its complications occur among all age, racial, and
10ethnic groups; and
 
11    WHEREAS, According to the Illinois Department of Health,
12diabetes affects 1.3 million people in the State of Illinois;
13this number does not take into consideration those with the
14disease who remain undetected and left untreated; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bill HB5003, designating November 14 of each year
16as Diabetes Awareness Day, was signed into law in Illinois on
17July 17, 2012; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Diabetes Awareness Day was established to help
19raise awareness and educate people about this disease that
20affects so many in our community; and

1    WHEREAS, Diabetes ultimately affects us all, from
2sufferers to their families, caregivers, friends, communities,
3and medical providers; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Only through working together to bring increased
5education and awareness to our local communities can further
6diabetes awareness and action occur; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we recognize Diabetes Awareness in the State of Illinois on
10November 14, 2022; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we encourage local governments to also join
12the effort to increase awareness of the disease and recognize
13Diabetes Awareness Day in the State of Illinois.
