2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 677 by replacing |
3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | | "Section 5. The Department of Professional Regulation Law |
5 | | of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by |
6 | | adding Section 2105-365 as follows: |
7 | | (20 ILCS 2105/2105-365 new) |
8 | | Sec. 2105-365. Continuing education; Alzheimer's disease |
9 | | and other dementias. |
10 | | (a) As used in this Section, "health care professional" |
11 | | means a person licensed or registered by the Department under |
12 | | the following Acts: the Medical Practice Act of 1987, the |
13 | | Nurse Practice Act, the Clinical Psychologist Licensing Act, |
14 | | the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987, the Illinois |
15 | | Physical Therapy Act, the Physician Assistant Practice Act of |
16 | | 1987, the Clinical Social Work and Social Work Practice Act, |

1 | | the Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary |
2 | | Act, the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the |
3 | | Podiatric Medical Practice Act of 1987, the Respiratory Care |
4 | | Practice Act, the Professional Counselor and Clinical |
5 | | Professional Counselor Licensing and Practice Act, and the |
6 | | Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act. |
7 | | (b) For license or registration renewals occurring on or |
8 | | after January 1, 2023, a health care professional who has |
9 | | continuing education requirements must complete at least a |
10 | | one-hour course in training on the diagnosis, treatment, and |
11 | | care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other |
12 | | dementias per renewal period. This training shall include, but |
13 | | not be limited to, assessment and diagnosis, effective |
14 | | communication strategies, and management and care planning. |
15 | | This requirement shall only apply to health care professionals |
16 | | who provide health care services to adult populations age 26 |
17 | | or older in the practice of their profession. A health care |
18 | | professional may count this one hour for completion of this |
19 | | course toward meeting the minimum credit hours required for |
20 | | continuing education. Any training on Alzheimer's disease and |
21 | | other dementias applied to meet any other State licensure |
22 | | requirement, professional accreditation or certification |
23 | | requirement, or health care institutional practice agreement |
24 | | may count toward the continuing education requirement under |
25 | | this Section. |
26 | | (c) The Department may adopt rules for the implementation |
