SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Cpl. Tommy Neal Miller was born on July 19, 1949
7and was a native of Bethalto in Madison County; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller enlisted in the United States Marine
9Corps and served during the Vietnam War; he began his tour of
10duty on June 10, 1968; his specialty was Mortarman, and he was
11attached to 3rd Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, E
12Company; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller was killed in action by hostile
14forces on February 25, 1969 in South Vietnam, Quang Tri
15province; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller's commendations include the Purple
17Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service
18Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal,
19the Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam
20Gallantry Cross, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the
21Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal; and

1    WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller is honored on the Vietnam Veterans
2Memorial in Washington, DC; his name is inscribed at VVM Wall,
3Panel 31w, Line 53; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
6REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois
7Route 140 as it travels through Meadowbrook as the "Cpl. Tommy
8N. Miller Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
10is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
11State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
12giving notice of the name the "Cpl. Tommy N. Miller Memorial
13Highway"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Cpl. Miller and the Secretary of the
16Illinois Department of Transportation.
