|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Thomas Frederick "Tom" Stone Jr. of |
4 | | Danville, who passed away on February 4, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky to |
6 | | Thomas and Geraldine (Caskey) Stone on January 20, 1951; he |
7 | | attended The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey; he earned his |
8 | | degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University; he moved |
9 | | to Chicago and, while simultaneously working in engineering, |
10 | | he worked towards his law degree at the John Marshall Law |
11 | | School; he also attended Rosary College in Chicago during this |
12 | | time; he married Mary Lou Swansbro Tinder on February 2, 2002; |
13 | | and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. became the Director of Public Works |
15 | | in Franklin Park; he was recruited and moved to Danville as |
16 | | City Engineer and Director of Public Works in 1991; he moved on |
17 | | to work at WTH in Indianapolis in 1999, where he remained until |
18 | | 2002; he then found a position closer to home as an engineer |
19 | | and operator of the Danville Sanitary District; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. went through the Leadership |
21 | | Danville program and became very active in the Danville |
22 | | community; he served on the Danville Public Library Board and |
|

1 | | the Zoning Committee before being elected as Ward 5 Alderman |
2 | | in 2009; he was also active with the Danville Land Bank and the |
3 | | Eastern Illinois Community Action, where he was currently |
4 | | serving as acting attorney; he annually participated in |
5 | | Community Days; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. became a member of the Central |
7 | | Christian Church in 2000, where he made the ice cream for the |
8 | | Annual Block Party, cooked the beans for the All Church |
9 | | Picnic, played bass in the Praise Band, and held positions of |
10 | | elder and church treasurer; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. enjoyed traveling, spending time |
12 | | with those he loved, cheering on the Bears and Cubs, watching |
13 | | NASCAR, and attending the Indy 500 for the past 46 straight |
14 | | seasons; he also enjoyed traveling to Maui and Florida with |
15 | | his wife, where they traveled often to enjoy the beach; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Tom Stone Jr. is survived by his wife; his |
17 | | daughters, Jennifer Loftus, Megan Drake, and Tami (Randy) |
18 | | Wilson; his grandchildren, Avery Loftus, Ava Loftus, Whitney |
19 | | Wilson, Brady Wilson, and Carlie Craig; his sister, Terri |
20 | | (David) Price; his nephews, Tom Price and David Price; and his |
21 | | church family and the hundreds of friends he made throughout |
22 | | the years; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Thomas Frederick "Tom" Stone Jr. and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Tom Stone Jr. as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
