SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Nilza H. Kartavicius, who passed away
4on June 29, 2019, at the age of 83; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nilza Kartavicius was born in Guaymate, La Romana
6province, Dominican Republic to Amando Rivera and Mercedes
7Marien (Simo) Rivera in 1935; she studied secretarial science
8at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Santa Maria Mensa;
9she married Ray Kartavicius; they lived in Oak Park and North
10Riverside before he preceded her in death in 2015; she then
11moved to the Belmont Village Assisted Living facility, where
12she spent the last years of her life; and
 
13    WHEREAS, As a child, Nilza Kartavicius was known as
14playful and outgoing, but also serious when the need arose; as
15an adult, she became the emotional bedrock of her family,
16imparting her wisdom through being kind, attentive, outgoing,
17and reliable; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Nilza Kartavicius was devoted to her family; she
19loved traveling; she will be remembered for playing an
20important part in the lives of those who knew her; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Nilza Kartavicius was the fourth of five siblings

1and was the sister of Humberto Rivera, Melba Fernandez,
2Clarissa Amani, and Sonia Garcia; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Nilza Kartavicius was preceded in death by her
4husband of 40 years, Ray Kartavicius; and
 
5    WHEREAS, At the time of her death, Nilza Kartavicius was
6survived by her nieces and nephews, Alex Rivera, Dr. Maria
7Rivera, Fariba Amani Weitgenant, Soraya Garcia, Mercedes
8Fernandez, Paris Amani, Lisa Amani, Dr. Desiree Garica Rivera,
9Ismael Fernandez, Marnie Sandoval, Sandra Amani, and Rafael
10Garcia; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Nilza H. Kartavicius and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Nilza Kartavicius as an expression
18of our deepest sympathy.
