SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Rosie Lee Peterson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson was born in Ripley, Mississippi to
5Judy Adams and Joe Peterson on March 7, 1937; near the end of
6the Great Depression, her parents moved the family to
7Middleton, Tennessee; she attended school part time while
8helping her family tend to their farm through the lean years of
9World War II and migrated to Chicago when she was 18; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson worked in housekeeping at
11McCormick Place, as a senior care worker, and as a domestic
12home worker for several families; in the late 1990s, she took a
13job in security for the City of Chicago's Department of
14General Services, where she worked until she retired in 2008;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson hosted big holiday dinners and
17weekend sleep-overs for her nieces and nephews; she was an
18exceptional cook and prepared grand feasts for her family,
19neighbors, and friends; she enjoyed playing cards and dancing
20and was a passionate fan of Chicago blues; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson was strong willed, fiercely

1independent, and a very caring and protective mother; she
2instilled in her children the importance of discipline,
3cleanliness, hard work, and respect; she could be brutally
4honest when offering her opinions, but her life experiences
5and her understanding of people and situations helped her
6guide family and friends through life's challenges; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson is survived by her children, Terry
8Peterson, Diann (Corhn) Peterson, and Tyrone Peterson; her
9sisters, Betty Woods, Johnnie Thompson, Bobby White, Charlene
10Beecher, and Grace Baity; her brother, Junior Jeans; and
11numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Rosie Lee Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to her
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Rosie Peterson as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
