SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Carter Joseph Russell Sr., who passed
4away on March 19, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was born to Julius and Nanette
6Russell in Chicago on October 29, 1929; he was raised in the
7Morgan Park area and attended Sherwood Elementary and
8Inglewood High School; he married Delores M. Hodges, and
9together they had eight children; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. retired from the Chicago
11Bridge and Iron Company after 43 years of service; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. raised his family in the
13Catholic Church and was an active parishioner; in his early
14years, he was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church; after
15moving to the Chatham area, he joined St. Joachim Church;
16while at St. Joachim, he loved to sing in the choir, served in
17the Holy Name Men's Organization, and received several awards
18for his acts of service; he gave many hours in support of
19fundraising events, such as the Fish Fries, Barbeque Dinners,
20Pancake Breakfasts, and the Women's Annual Fashion Show; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was a hard worker and very

1handy and made a hobby of rehabbing houses; he had a love for
2jazz music, enjoyed cooking, and was known for his dance
3moves; he had an infectious smile and was always willing to
4lend a helping hand whenever needed; he was a loyal friend to
5many and a true servant to his church and community; he
6cherished spending time with family; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was preceded in death by his
8parents; his siblings, Tuson, Hiram, Elizabeth, Marie, Eunice,
9and Julius; and two great-grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. is survived by his eight
11children, Carter, Terrie, Carlotta, Carl, Tanya, Clifford,
12Courtney, and Theresa; his four daughters-in-law; his 19
13grandchildren; his 28 great-grandchildren; his five
14great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Lillian; his nieces and
15nephews; his cousins; and his friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Carter Joseph Russell Sr. and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Carter Russell Sr. as an expression
