SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Patricia Irene Bader M.D. of
4Champaign, who passed away on April 7, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader was born on a farm in rural Paris,
6Illinois on August 26, 1945; she graduated first in her class
7from Paris High School in 1963; she received a Bachelor of
8Arts, cum laude, in 1966 from DePauw University in
9Greencastle, Indiana and her medical degree in 1970 from the
10Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine; she completed an
11internship at IU in pediatrics in 1971, her residency in 1972,
12and her postdoctoral genetics fellowship through the National
13Institute of Health in 1973; she obtained a master's degree
14from IU in genetics in 1974; she was board certified as a
15pediatrician, clinical geneticist, and clinical
16cytogeneticist; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader was a professor at the Indiana
18University School of Medicine in Fort Wayne, Indiana and
19participated with all of the major hospital systems in
20northeast Indiana and southeastern Michigan; she had over 100
21professional publications in peer-reviewed journals; she
22volunteered extensively at various clinics and served the
23community, patients, and families for over 50 years; she also

1delivered numerous lectures and presentations throughout the
2United States; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader was a Founding Fellow with the American
4Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics; her early studies on
5chromosomes, single genes, and heredity among the Amish was
6the beginning of the practice of clinical genetics and
7cytogenetics in northeast Indiana; she was an active
8participant in several relevant professional programs within
9the community, such as the Indiana State Medical Association
10(ISMA) and the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH); she
11was the former president of the Genetics Advisory Committee
12for the ISDH; in addition to several clinics in Fort Wayne, she
13developed outlying genetic clinics in Muncie, South Bend, and
14Lafayette, Indiana; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After relocating to Illinois to care for her
16mother, Dr. Bader began caring for patients at the Carle
17Foundation Hospital Pediatrics Specialties Department; she
18served as a clinical associate professor at the University of
19Illinois, Carle Medical School; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader, physician, geneticist, pediatrician,
21professor, educator, and advocate, lived her life with
22extraordinary passion; her greatest love and passion was for
23her family and her faith; she was a past director and member of

1the Third Order Lay Carmelites in Fort Wayne, and her work and
2spirit will continue through those whose lives she touched;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader was preceded in death by her father,
5Eugene Englum; her brothers, Bob and Bernie Englum; and her
6sister, Micki Englum; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Bader is survived by her husband of 52 years,
8Franklin Bader; her daughters, Jessica Rosemary Bader,
9Jennifer Katherine Rutledge, and Jacki Patricia (Sean)
10McNulty; her son, Franklin "Joe" (Kristen Marie) Bader II;
11special friend of the family, Heather; her mother, Mary
12Englum; her sister-in-law, Rita Englum; her niece, Lynn
13Englum; her nephew, Brian Englum; and her grandchildren,
14Franklin Joseph Bader III, Katherine Patricia Rutledge,
15Charles Thomas Bader, Richard Charles Rutledge, Andrew Michael
16Bader, Fitzpatrick Sean McNulty, Clarice Marie Rutledge, and
17Josephine Marie McNulty; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Patricia Irene Bader M.D. and extend our sincere condolences
21to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
22it further
