SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Michael Kaufman first joined the faculty at
3Loyola University in Chicago in 1986; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Michael Kaufman served as the Loyola School of
5Law's associate dean for academic affairs from 2005 until July
62016, when he assumed the role of interim dean; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Michael Kaufman was named dean of the law school
8in March 2017; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Under Michael Kaufman's leadership, the Loyola
10School of Law has become a national leader in diversity,
11equity, and inclusion; it has expanded access to educational
12opportunities for students due to his efforts and those of the
13faculty to develop relationship-based curricula that
14emphasized core classes on professional identity formation,
15implicit bias prevention, and perspectives on law and justice;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Kaufman further expanded opportunity for
18more non-traditional students to study law through his
19successful development of the Weekend JD program; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Under Michael Kaufman's leadership, bar exam

1passage rates, employment outcomes, student academic
2credentials, academic reputation, and national rankings have
3all shown marked improvement; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Michael Kaufman, aside from his duties as dean
5and vice provost, displayed a prolific dedication to
6scholarship, producing 30 books and many law review articles;
7he supported the university and participated in numerous
8fundraising activities, while continuing to teach civil
9procedure and education law; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 30,
122021 as Michael Kaufman Day and applaud him as he makes the
13next step in his distinguished career; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Michael Kaufman as a symbol of our esteem and
16respect.
