SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of David Alan "Dave" Swickard of
4Rochester, formerly of Charleston, who passed away on April
510, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was born in Charleston to John W.
7and Ruth (Harper) Swickard on February 14, 1933; he served in
8the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he married Alice Jayne
9Morris in Lawrenceville on August 17, 1958; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard worked as a licensed funeral
11director and embalmer alongside his grandparents, Sam and
12Lenna Harper, his parents, and his brother, Stephen Swickard,
13in the family business, Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, for more
14than five decades; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard served as Coles County Coroner for
16one term; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was a life member of Paul McVey
18V.F.W. Post #1592; he started playing taps for veterans'
19funerals beginning in high school, and he continued until he
20retired; he was a 32nd degree mason with the Charleston
21Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M.; he was a member, past president,

1and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Charleston Rotary Club; he
2provided his motor home and was chauffeur for the president of
3Rotary International while he was touring Central Illinois; he
4was a member of the Coles County Barbershoppers and Wesley
5United Methodist Church Chancel Choir for many years; he was a
6longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a
7current member of the First United Methodist Church of
8Springfield; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was honored to serve families
10during their times of grief, and he was able to balance that
11responsibility with being active in the community and
12completely devoted to his family; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was preceded in death by his
14parents and his brothers, John Swickard Jr. and Stephen S.
15Swickard; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dave Swickard is survived by his wife; his
17children, Laura (Paul) Worrall and Reverend Dr. Robert A.
18(Gina) Swickard; his six grandchildren and seven
19great-grandchildren, with another due in August; his brother,
20James H. (Nancy) Swickard; and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis
21Swickard and Shirley Swickard; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2David Alan "Dave" Swickard and extend our sincere condolences
3to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Dave Swickard as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
