SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William Douglas "Doug" Smith of
4Moline, who passed away on June 9, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doug Smith was born in Hemphill, Texas to Levi T.
6and Sybil B. (Maund) Smith on August 13, 1932; he served in the
7U.S. Navy during the Korean War; he married Juliana M. Burger
8in Yuma, Arizona on April 5, 1952; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Doug Smith had owned and operated numerous
10businesses in the area, including Doug's Heating and Air
11Conditioning, Colona Video, Bakery and Pizza, and Family Hobby
12Center, Moline; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Doug Smith was an avid bowler; he also enjoyed
14fishing and loved his yearly fishing trips to Lake of the
15Woods, Canada; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Doug Smith was preceded in death by his wife,
17Juliana, and his sister, Wilma L. Smith; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Doug Smith is survived by his children, Gail
19(Donald) Guthrie, Joni Basala (Alberto Favela), Douglas Smith,
20and Julie (Mike) O'Donnell; his grandchildren, Joshua

1(Tiffany) Basala, Anthony (Alikei) Smith, Justin (Nicole)
2O'Donnell, Gabriel Favela, Cory O'Donnell, Tom (Jennifer)
3Guthrie, Jennifer (Bill) Reddick, and Jamie (Justin) Hosek;
4his 15 great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; and
5numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8William Douglas "Doug" Smith and extend our sincere
9condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
10him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Doug Smith as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
